Punjab government is starting new projects in south Punjab for generating economic opportunities and employment for people living in less developed area of the province, Chairman Planning and Development Habib-ur-Rehman Gilani said here on Friday. He gave a briefing to the Federal Functional Committee Senate Secretariat on problems of Less Developed Areas (PLDA) led by the Chairman Committee Senator Muhammad Usman Khan Kakar and four committee members Senator Gianchand, Senator Ayub Khan Afridi, Senator Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen & Senator Kalsoom Parveen who visited the P&D Complex on Friday.

The committee members discussed future plans and remedial steps of Punjab government to reduce the grievances of the people of less developed areas in South Punjab districts. Punjab P&D arranged a detailed & comprehensive briefing session for the committee of the upper house of Parliament to highlight the uplift projects for South Punjab districts Rajanpur, Muzaffarghar, Layya and Lodhran. All members of P&D Board, Provisional Administrative Secretaries and other relevant officers attended the session.

Addressing the session, chairman P&D said that Punjab government is committed to uplift the South Punjab and redress grievances & problems of the people of less developed areas by taking remedial steps.

New funding allocations would be made for starting development projects in less developed areas in the upcoming financial year 2019-20 as the previous government had not seriously focused the south Punjab uplift during its five years tenure. He said all the essential projects directly relating to general public would be top priority of the government. Economic opportunities and employment would be generated for public of south Punjab.

The new Secretariat for Southern Punjab would be functional soon. Under the direction of Chief Minister Punjab, necessary arrangements for supply of water, sports and resorts for tourists are being given final shape.
